Ace Bushy Striptease
Outside It’s Cold Just Like The Inside Of Your Body And Odd Box Records

Article written by Ged M - Jan 8, 2013

Ace Bushy Striptease formed at university five years ago and are your typical student band, their enthusiasm way ahead of their talent, but they're clearly having a good time. Passion and a sense of fun have taken them to this, their fifth album, which crams 13 tracks into 25 minutes of hooting, handclaps and footballing metaphors in a style that brings to mind bands like Bearsuit, Tigercats and Los Campesinos.

Sometimes the songs are a little indulgent (the song titles certainly are) but there are some good, giddy moments here. ‘Death By Autofill’ has Marr-esque guitar before it evolves into an anarchic, voices-in-chorus chant, while ‘Little Eiffel’ is a grumbling Pavement tune and ‘The Words That You Said Are Still Wet In My Head’ is like classic Bearsuit with its mix of shouty voices, dashing rhythms and trumpet parps. A mention, too, for the teasing title ‘My Hand Could Be Your Wife’ though the ukulele is as dated a sound as the psaltery these days. They’re a fun-time band of archetypal indiepoppers who sound head-clearingly fine if you don’t take ‘em too seriously (as they clearly don’t take themselves).
