Au
Verbs Aagoo Records

Article written by Ged M - Dec 14, 2008

Au: Verbs
An experimental musical collective from Portland, their second album almost defies definition, moving from a 21-piece choir on ‘All My Friends’ to the minimalist ‘Summerheat’ with its flickering instrumentation, and from the jazzy ‘The Waltz’ to the ethereal-voiced ‘Two Seasons’. The band are led by classically trained Luke Wyland and the core members are multi-instrumentalists Jonathan Sielaff and Mark Kaylor, which accounts for the range of sounds employed. For something so ambitious it’s surprisingly immediate; comparisons are unfair since the sound of Au is clearly so individual but fans of Arcade Fire, Sufjan Stevens, Animal Collective and Grizzly Bear will hear elements that clearly call out to them. Verbs is an unexpected treat.
