Das Wanderlust
Horses for Courses Don't Tell Clare

Article written by Paul M - May 5, 2009

Good things come to those that wait or so they say, and after patiently tapping their fingers for eighteen months from recording to releasing this their debut album, Teesside’s Das Wanderlust’s no doubt hope you agree. It could take me nearly as long to read through the instrument list credited on the sleeve. While they stop just short of throwing the kitchen sink into their work, they do include frying pans and it’s this sense of chaotic fun that makes the band so appealing. Shouty female vocals straddle the shambling scuzzy rhythms, with plenty of parps, toots and tweets poking out at jaunty angles to add to the lo-fi post punk mayhem. Don’t be put off though, there’s still the odd sweet melody battling to get out from beneath the racket. Nods will probably be accorded in the direction of the Delta Five, X-Ray Spex, Bis and the Fall and while I wouldn’t suggest you plough through the entire album in one sitting too often, the madcap wrongpop is definitely worth gobbling in occasional fizzy three minute spurts.
