Named after the spoof band Gaz Coombes and Danny Goffey put together during the sabbatical taken while Mick Quinn recovered from his back injuries last year, Supergrass’ 6th studio album ‘Diamond Hoo Ha’ is a return to rock and hooks.
The Brit Pop cheekiness gone, the catchy refrains stay but they are incorporated in a more slick and mature sound. Stompy Rock n’ roll guitars, glam and bouncy refrains dominate, with highlights in the singles ‘Bad Blood’ and ‘Rebel in You’ and the Dylanesque vocal echoes of ‘Ghost of a Friend’.
A far cry from the pensive and relaxed tones of last album ‘Road to Rouen’, ‘Diamond Hoo Ha’ is a non stop display of renewed enthusiasm and energy for the joy of the new fans and the older and still wiser followers of the ‘Alright’ days.
