Indietracks Indiepop Compilation 2010 Make Do And Mend

Article written by Paul M - Jul 11, 2010

IndieTracks 2010
IndieTracks 2010
IndieTracks is the terrific festival held every year in July at an active steam railway station in the glorious wilds of Derbyshire. Its focus is indiepop, the loose moniker attached to artists influenced by the jangly end of C86, shouty DIY pop, shoegazing and the outputs of the Postcard, Creation and Sarah labels. The last three years have seen the event celebrated in disc form too with many of those performing featuring. This year’s double CD package lives up to the main billing with 44 acts included for a ludicrously generous £7 – that’s a mere 16p a track to you mp3 munchkins, though quite what you’d find to leave out if you started cherry picking in the non-physical format I don’t know.

There are so many diamonds to be mined but I’ll restrict my comments to the real paragons…

The indiepop royalty… The Pains of Being Pure At Heart’s Higher Than The Stars (a wonderful dreampop vision of Smiths introversion)… Love is All’s Kungen (a cleansed Liliput euphoric bop)… Standard Fare’s Dancing (jarring powerpop par excellence)… Allo Darlin’’s Kiss My Lips (jaunty cutey pop) … Ballboy’’s There is More To Life Than Sleeping and Eating (marvellous Caledonian melancholia)…

And some of the many fantastic ones the broadsheets ignore… Paisley and Charlie’s Stone Lions (sumptuous orchestral pop)… Stars in Coma’s Peacebloom (melodic Afro-tinged cheery goodness)… Betty and the Werewolves’s Good As Gold (Talulah Gosh-esq jangle pop)… Stars of Aviation’s Herman Dune Slept on My Floor (self-mocking parpy fun)…

Just brilliant.

Tickets are still on sale for the festival too from here
