Lacrosse
This New Year Will Be For You And Me Tapete Records

Article written by Ged M - Dec 21, 2007

As midwinter approaches, Swedes know how to lift blue moods and blast away traces of Seasonal Affective Disorder and Stockholm six-piece Lacrosse would warm anyone’s cockles with their sugar rush of a record. It has all the staples of Scandopop – jangly guitars, swirly keyboards, tooting trumpets and bright boy/girl duets - all mixed up in a supermelodic smorgasbord of heavenly pop treats. ‘No More Lovesongs’ fits the profile perfectly, making you feel the endorphins kick in as soon as those trumpets first blare and ‘Let’s Get Old’ is more of the same uptempo indiepop. ‘(You’re On My) Fighting Side’ slows the pace, using psychology and philosophy (“everyone you love loves themselves more/ nothing’s gonna change”) to try and win a heart. ‘New York or Alingsas’ shows they’re not just some twee band, sounding more like a Swedish Sonic Youth with grumbling guitars and wheezes of synth, while ‘You Can’t Say No Forever’ has already been a single, a pretty acoustic song that becomes a rousing romantic indiepop anthem devoted to removing yourself from a rut. It’s smart and sharp sunshine pop perfect for staving off cabin fever this winter.
