Talibam!
Puff Up The Volume Critical Heights

Article written by Michael H - Sep 12, 2012

Talibam!
The word gonzo doesn’t really do this justice. Talibam! have, with ‘Puff Up The Volume’, created what must be the first, and hopefully last, avant rock comedy rap album. Much of this CD sounds like a drunk Hella producing the 2002 winners of the Bloodhound Gang covers band of the year award.

‘Step In The Marina’ has a great ecological disaster rap: “I’m deep in the jungle, I’m sweeping off the flies, I’m a witness to the logging and all the corporate lies, the snakes and monkeys are running for their lives, species going extinct right before my eyes.” Well, I laughed. The title track is also quite good, a punk dance song with some slightly nauseatingly graphic lyrics. The rest of the album fails to be either funny or ironically enjoyable, even in a “this is intentionally shit” way.

Besides, The Lonely Island has got this sort of thing completely sewn up. Youtube their ‘Jizz In My Pants’ and tell me I’m wrong.
