Ty Segall: Melted
Yet another record from the prolific Californian, and most of it is fine garage-glam-punk rock. A couple of the tracks are a letdown - the fanciful ‘Mike D’s Coke’ and the loose ‘Alone’ - but there’s some garage gold elsewhere. ‘Caesar’ has a magnificent stomping beat, redolent of the mighty Monks, and ‘Girlfriend’ is a rabble-rousing, blood-pumping, glammed-up killer of a tune. The same influence is apparent on ‘Sad Girl’, a really catchy garage-glam song with Marc Bolan-esque vocals, while ‘My Sunshine’ is fantastic full-on garage rock indebted to the Sonics.

The album’s short and it sounds as if the Ty Segall sound is broadening out from his previous one-man band incarnation, but when the album is on target (which is most of the time) this is some of the most invigorating rock’n’roll you could hope for and the above mentioned tracks are the absolute minimum you should hear of Melted.
