Remember this lot? A comedy bunch from across of the Atlantic that only use three strings on their guitars as six are too many to handle and had hits in the late 90's with 'Lump' and 'Peaches'? Well now they're back with their first new album in four years and it is a typically fun affair. Sounding like Ben Folds Five with guitars instead of piano, the Seattle based three-piece fight against the stereotypes of their hometown by using humour instead of angst, pop instead of grunge and a good dose of infectious melody to boot. Kicking of with 'Mixed Up S.O.B.' (confusing really when you consider the S.O.B.in question is actually a female) it's clear that the band haven't strayed much from their traditional fuzzy guitars and sub three minute upbeat rock & roll sound. They do, however, venture into new territory on a couple of occasions, bringing in a horn section for the jazz-tinged - though still quintessentially PUSA - 'Flame In Love'. There's also the welcome addition of female backing vocals on 'Deleter' courtesy of fellow Seattleite Fysah Thomas. That's about as experimental as this lot get though, which is hardly going to win them any new fans but is sure to keep those already converted happy. ‘Sharpen Up Those Fangs’ and ‘Riot In The Sun’ are the album standouts and stick closely to the ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ sentiments of the band.
