Sons and Daughters Carling Academy Islington
21st November 2007

Article written by Elisabetta P
Nov 25, 2007.

Stepping out of one year’s silence, Sons and Daughters get once again on the road to promote their third album – This Gift – to an enthusiastic audience at the Carling Academy Islington on Wednesday night.

Introducing their set with old favourite ‘Broken Bones’, the band proceeds with a balanced progression of old and new songs without losing the hand clapping, fast paced and powerful spirit of their performance. With Bernard Butler, famous for blending gloom and glam into perfect pop songs during his stint as Suede’s guitarist, on production duties, Sons and Daughters have honed their sound and perfected their musical direction. New songs ‘Rebel with the Ghost’, ‘The Nest’ and next single ‘Darling’ show a captivating and powerful pop dimension whilst retaining their gothic pounding guitars and gripping vocals. New single ‘Gilt Complex’ – well received by the audience – and ‘The Bell’ echo the dark country influences that heavily permeated the band’s previous work.

Favourites ‘Dance me in’ and ‘Johnny Cash’ – brilliantly mixed with The Stooges’ ‘I wanna be your dog’, a common practise of the early shows, Scott Paterson admits – are the highlights of the night that along with 60s golden dresses, beehives and attitude prove once more that Sons and Daughters know how to shine on stage.
