80s Indie not too Scared to Get Happy live

Article written by Paul M - Feb 11, 2013

scared_to_get_happy
Scared to Get Happy is a 5-CD Box Set to be released by Cherry Red Records in June 2013. Inspired by Nuggets, it is a 5-CD box set devoted to the 1980s Indie guitar pop revolution which swept across the British Isles.

From the post-punk scene and Postcard Records through the explosion of bands celebrated by the NME on their famous C86 cassette through to perhaps the ultimate distillation of the scene, Sarah Records, Scared To Get Happy celebrates a golden era.

Many of the featured artists later enjoyed hit singles - The Wonder Stuff, Lloyd Cole, The Soup Dragons, Prefab Sprout, Everything But The Girl, Inspiral Carpets, The Darling Buds, etc. Others shone brightly but briefly, issuing just a clutch of Indie 45s before disappearing.

On Saturday 22/06/2013 at 229 in Great Portland Street, Central London the box set will be launched with exclusive live performances from 10 of the band's featured.

Confirmed artists so far are:

THE PRIMITIVES
BMX BANDITS
BRILLIANT CORNERS
THE POOH STICKS
THE JUNE BRIDES
MIGHTY MIGHTY
POPGUNS
THE WOLFHOUNDS
14 ICED BEARS

with some very special acts to be announced shortly.
