Living in Blighty has its blessings. Mild (if damp) climate and no major problems with earthquakes and mostly the music scene ain't too bad. However we'd happily swap it all for the heat, hills and faultlines of San Francisco if only to attend this year's wonderful indiepop celebration, Popfest 2009.

Popfest has occurred regularly since 1995 when Magnetic Fields were the then obscure headliners. This year it's in San Francisco and although we can't make it we urge our American readers (Hi Hank Junior and Mary Lou Ellen!) to do so. The line-up looks excellent, as ever:
