‘Cats In Paris’ is the name, and being ‘odd’ ‘leftfield’ and ‘arty’ is the game. ‘Foxes’ is their debut release, backed up by instrumental ‘Terrapins’ on the flip. Cats, foxes, terrapins… a veritable menagerie. And this musical experience is also a menagerie, with those beasts Devo, B-52s, Scissor Sisters, Sparks and ELO pawing at the bars of the cage…Deerhoof, Animal Collective and Dirty Projectors are listed as contemporary soundalike non-soundalikes, if you get my drift.
I can’t help feeling that Cats In Paris are one of those bands probably more fun to be in than to listen to, but at least they’re doing something a bit different, and 'Foxes' certainly improves after repeated listens. Worth catching.
