There are times when you think Fleet Foxes are the Beach Boys; other times when you’d swear they were a Southern Gospel choir. And at one point on ‘Mykonos’ they even throw in some Gregorian chant. The debut EP from Seattle’s Fleet Foxes isn’t scared to go from loud to quiet, or from full-band sound to acapella in the course of a single song. ‘Drops In The River’ has some warm harmonies minimally backed by the scraped strings of a cello while ‘English House’ could be a folkier version of the Shins. A few listens to all five tracks with their incredible vocal arrangements should be enough to convince you of the brilliance of this folk-pop sound.
