I used to work with a woman called Heledd who, though it pained her to speak in English, translated the Super Furry Animals’ gnomic first-language words of wisdom for me. She’s gone back to West Wales, eating seaweed and wearing those strange pointy hats, so I’m reduced to Google’s terrible translator. I think that the title means ‘The Little Baby’ and I know that it’s only available on Gruff’s current tour. It’s the soundtrack to The Meaning of Style, a short film about Malaysian skinhead culture by Phil Collins (the Berlin-based artist rather than the gruesome Swiss-based singing drummer). It’s a rather beautiful, intensely colourful film and Gruff’s soundtrack complements it perfectly, with his voice ba-ba-ba-ing over a trilling piano riff plus Y Niwl’s restrained backing. It works in the film and, heard on its own, it’s quietly hypnotic too. Rhyfeddol
