Hayman, Watkins, Trout & Lee
Jam-Eater Blues / Dirty Tube Train
Fortuna Pop (Free MP3s)

Article written by Paul M
May 10, 2008.

Hmmm by my reckoning this is probably the 30th article about either this bunch, Darren Hayman or the Wave Pictures we've published in the last 27 minutes... Not that we're stalking them though...(*sound of Hayman's voice*... "Oi fatty, get out of my tree!")... Ok, maybe we are pushing them a fair bit but judging by the relatively poor turnouts at H,W,T&L live appearances compared with the shows of the participants' other bands, it would appear people are being frightened off by either the name (yes, it does sound like a bunch of busy South London solicitors) or the 'bluegrass' label. Don't be. This is no more the product of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia than a pint of London Pride. Yes, there's a country feel to the fiddletastic cover of Jam-Eater Blues but you'll get no faux-hick accent from Dave Tattersall so it seems as much a product of a hoe down in Hackney Marshes as Kentucky. Dirty Tube Train is also led by the fiddle but it has a ska-tinged beat that appropriately mimics the rhythm of a train and vintage Hayman lyrics, as he salaciously fantasises about a fellow passenger on the Northern Line. If you've ever liked Hefner then you'll love this one. And, by George, it's free! Go on, where's the risk? And then buy the terrific album from whence these two came!

Available from Hefnet from 27th May 2008.
