Hong Kong in the 60s
Collision/Detection v4 Front and Follow

Article written by Michael H - Aug 15, 2012

hong_kong_in_60s.jpg
This is the fourth release in Front and Follow’s ongoing Collision/Detection project, and, after sterling work from The Lord, West Norwood Cassette Library and Psychological Strategy Board, Hong Kong in the 60s continue the good work.

The central pool of samples used as source material in all of the Collision/Detection series is put to more melodic uses than previous releases. ‘The Ungrateful Root’ is a lovely wheezing keyboard lullaby reminiscent of Electrelane with their whirling Farfisa organ. ‘Into The Forest of Eyes’ is a night time stroll through suburban parks and fox-ravaged bins. ‘Banbury Grove’ is an echoing psychedelic ballad and paves the way for the best song on the EP which is ‘The Clearing’, a lush and beautiful electronic sigh, calm, beatific and full of glittering detail that sounds like Susuma Yakota remixing Broadcast.
