They’ve shaved off the spikes and replaced the herky-jerky movements with rounded corners and the result is poppy but unchallenging. This might get them onto XfM’s generic-indie playlist but it’s a far cry from the bold, angular sounds that attracted us to them originally. Even the lyrics – a hymn to the humble housebrick – sound mannered and forced. ‘We Drove It Like We Stole It’ on the other side fades out with a whimper not a bang, which is hopefully something the band won’t do.
