Love Interruption Third Man Records 7”

This is the first track from the forthcoming ‘Blunderbuss’ album and while it’s ostensibly a solo record, the video for the song shows how much he likes to share the limelight, with Ruby Amanfu (vocals), Brooke Waggoner (electric piano) and Emily Bowland (clarinets) getting almost equal billing. A couple of plays of this country-styled song (shades of ‘Son of a Preacher Man’) and it will be lodged deep in your head, with Bowland’s deep and reedy contribution making it sound especially distinctive. Non-album B-side ‘Machine Gun Silhouette’ marries bluesy Rolling Stones rhythms to a staccato delivery last heard on the White Stripes’ ‘Doorbell’. Like everything Jack White does, there’s a strong traditional foundation (this time it’s Nashville country and blues-rock) but he always manages to make it distinctively his.
