With Me Tonight/ Boner Hit O Genesis Recordings 7"

Playing records at the wrong speed seemed to be a lost art in the download era but the different speeds on each side of this single positively encourage it. And there are other classic touches that make this record so good. ‘With Me Tonight’ has a 60s girlpop feel, full of longing and with a naggingly catchy riff, and the recording is the opposite of lo-fi thanks to the ministrations of R Stevie Moore. But if that’s good, ‘Boner Hit’ is brilliant, a riffy, repetitive pop groove that you hope will never end. It’s simple pop with a simple message and simply stunning. Probably the best track I’ve heard this year.
