Theodaurus Rex EP

Le Volume Courbe is essentially French born Londoner Charlotte Marionneau, who's managed to gather a few useful chums since she moved here at the end of the 90s, including Hope Sandoval and Kevin Shields (she supported MBV at their Roundhouse comeback shows). Yet her career has been far from meteoric. She was one of the original artists covered by Alan McGee's scattergun approach for Poptones back in 2001 and has done very little since. Indeed this is a reissue of material first put out at the end of last year. However, it's worth checking out because her brittle delivery and keen ear for melody has produced a rather splendid release.

Opener Born to Lie is the stand out, a breathy vocaled number with strings and a petit peu of French Arab. I Love the Living You is a charming ballad with Shields accompanying Marionneau's childlike voice with acoustic guitar. Lazy marries a buzzing riff with chiming glock keys. Le Petit Chevalier is a cover of an old Nico song, a sinister and maudlin finale to a rather magnifique EP.
