Mammoth Penguins
Propped Up Fortuna Pop! Records

Article written by Ged M - Jul 13, 2015

Emma Kupa has swapped Sheffield trio Standard Fare for Cambridge trio Mammoth Penguins but she’s retained the knack of (and maybe got even better at) writing heart-on-sleeve anthems with great air-punching choruses. 'Propped Up', the first single from their forthcoming debut album Hide And Seek, fits that bill perfectly, with the same unbridled powerpop sound as Weezer and Ash, plus a soaring chorus. The reflective, melancholic ‘Thinking Of You’ demonstrates Emma’s songwriting versatility, all sparkling guitars and throbbing bass and shot full of metaphors for holding back. If the album’s as good as the single, it should be pretty memorable.
