My Sad Captains
All Hat and No Plans

Yin and yang, good and evil, capitalism and communism, Cannon & Ball…the world relies on a balance of opposing forces and My Sad Captains are already experts in the principle. For their masterful second single, they conjure up a melancholy mood for openers and then proceed to blow it away with an invigorating la-la-la chorus, bursting through like sun after a thunderstorm. After that the song continues to radiate sheer joy, from the lyrically subversive humour to anarchic trumpet and a grungy guitar spazzout at the end. The rousing ‘Great Expectations’, with its dashingly romantic lines and almost girl group flourishes, demonstrates that My Sad Captains release double-A-sided singles because we haven’t heard a B-side from them yet.
