This is a loose, funky groove for such a tight band. It’s a picaresque tale of the titular Larry’s travails on the road from New York to San Francisco, driven by a pumping organ riff and scratchy guitars and full of spiky dust-dry humour: “I mean, he never asked to be raised from the tomb”. This seems to be an example of his post-Grinderman work, direct and funny if perhaps not among his most essential songs. He’s in his sixth decade now and still making classic but not clichéd music. Although his moustache continues to be an abomination.
