Our Guys
Our Guys EP Bandcamp

In terms of development, US duo Our Guys should still be in the foetal position, having only joined forces under this guise earlier in the year. That said, this debut EP, although sounding as fresh as the morning dew, bears all the hallmarks of two men who have understanding, ideas, experience and are in the kind of form that would likely get Sir Alex splashing out a few quid to sign them. A dip into their history reveals they might not quite be as new to all this as they first appear. Greg Donahue and Joaquin Cotler have played alongside/spent college time with members of Das Racist, MGMT, Bear Hands, Ill Fits, The Felice Brothers, Vampire Weekend and more. We're assuming they graduated with an A+ in name-dropping.

This eponymous EP could happily rub shoulders with that motley crew though (but thankfully not with Mötley Crüe) as it takes in sunkissed, psychedelic indie that's suited to sunny days and sandy feet. 'Famous Last Words' is made for summer and is a cross-pollination of various degrees of alternative pop. It's best described as MGMT skinny dipping with The Beach Boys (sorry for that thought). The humming 'So Many Little Deaths' is Grandaddy building sandcastles with Grizzly Bear and 'Of Sand And Stone' is Fleet Foxes sitting around a beach fire with The Flaming Lips contemplating the day's events. I think you get the idea: this is pure sunshine for alternative pop fans everywhere.
