Palma Violets
Best of Friends Rough Trade Records

Article written by Ged M - Nov 10, 2012

palma_violets.jpg
The debut by South London band Palma Violets is on the right label; it sounds just like RT guitar bands of yore, especially The Libertines and The Strokes. There’s nothing new about ‘Best of Friends’ but it has a real buzz that’s missing from ersatz indie like the Vaccines – and it has an anthemic chorus liable to explode a live venue. The flipside ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ is sung by Sam Fryer rather than Chilli Jesson and its moody organ gives a different, Weather Prophets-like sound. If you go into this expecting attitude, energy and a knock-out chorus, rather than innovation, you won’t leave disappointed.
