Platform Zero EP Lostmusic 7"

Pete Green's big-hearted lo-fi acoustic indiepop is dripping with pathos, wit and charm, whether it's in the form of a self-deprecating love song ('I'm Gonna Stay With Her'), a confession to the follies of adhering to teen-tribe conventions ('Happy Being Me')or the sarcasm-dripping character assassination of the NME ('Best British Band Supported By Shockwaves'). He's a Sheffield singer-songwriter and, in the best traditions of that socialist republic, he's a non-conformist at heart (he even had an Internet hit slagging off MySpace). The star turn of this four-tracker is the aforementioned NME song, fuelled by a sense of betrayal and softened by a sense of humour, although the barbs are tipped with a poet's poison: "they've sold a generation down the river". Being a singer-songwriter is a pretty lonely existance - as is being a Grimsby Town supporter, which he also is - but Pete Green does that confessional, observational, wry songwriting thing better than most. And the NME will hate it - which is champion endorsement for me.
