Phil Wilson
Industrial Strength EP Slumberland Records

Article written by Paul M - Sep 12, 2012

Phil Wilson the dapper supremo of legendary C86 outfit The June Brides produced a four track covers EP for Slumberland in August. Unfortunately it slipped under our radar as we were too busy relaxing in our Speedos by the bushes in a South London park or frottering ourselves silly over the Olympics on the telly, at the time.

The EP was recorded at home, totally solo, using acoustic guitars, mandolin and banjo, and features re-worked songs from Throbbing Gristle, Kraftwerk, Faust and contemporary German band S/T. And if it's all as good as his version of Faust's It's a Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl, then Paypal here we come. Phil's turned the dour krautrock original into a calypso carnival of fun by shaving two and a half minutes off the original and sticking a Red Stripe in the fridge.

You can listen to, or download, this from Soundcloud below or by ordering the vinyl from here.
