Pop Levi’s flying solo now, constructing a second story of synth-powered dirty funk on top of his pop foundations. He’s build some of Beck’s swagger and Prince’s innuendo into the mix but he’s kept the enticing, elfin Bolan delivery of old. There are various mixes of the a-side available, from glitch-pop to hip-hop, but the best of the b-sides is the quirky but lovely space-pop of ‘Semi-Babe’. Pop Levi’s a true popstar for our post-pop age, literate, musically daring and possessing a pheromone-spurting auteur cool. I’d do him.
