Portico Quartet ft. Cornelia
Steepless Real World Records

Article written by Michael H - Sep 27, 2012

Portico Quartet
Like the best minimal music, Portico Quartet's new single 'Steepless' completely enthrals with a few bare ingredients. Gathering its elements together in the first few seconds: wood clicks, plangent piano chords and the beautiful vocals of Cornelia Dahlgren, it bursts into life with the addition of a three kicks and a clap beat which drops out temporarily to allow the tiny-dancing-angel details to gather pace, returning for a gloriously thumping end to an all too short 3 and a half minutes.

Solid remix work is done on the Capax mix in which the tracks parts are melted down into fractured dub techno. Two more mixes of another track 'Lacker Boo' by DVA and Luca Lozano are also excellent. DVA piles the sub bass high low for a dense build and release of tech noir. Luca Lozano tractor beams the listener onto the dance floor with a hypnotic cauldron of deep house movements and skipping two-step.
