Memories / Hours Away Labrador

Nearly three years since we last heard from them, those Swedish slackers Sambassadeur have finally appeared from their extended hibernation with new material and a new album looming. And there's been a few tweaks to their sound. Last time out they massaged our furrowed brows with the most blissful dreampop but with its rolling percussion, jagged strings and funky bassline, new single Memories sounds more like New Order after a New Romantic makeover (Hooky complete with mascara, dyed floppy fringe and mauve loons, naturally). It's good but the flipside Hours Away is the one you'll be returning to, with its urgent brooding fuzzy rhythms broken by the rays of sunlight emitted from the chorus. It's great to have them back.
