I Am Here Pop Noire 12”

There hasn’t been seen such a canny PR campaign for some time – first the limited 7” single, then the restriction on YouTube videos and a single TV appearance as the word-of-mouth gig-buzz built up. And now a four track live EP recorded in Bristol and Leeds – this is promotion as it used to be decades ago. It’s good though; for those who’ve seen the live show, the record captures the maelstrom of guitars and violent rhythms, with Jehnny Beth’s banshee wailing to guide you through. The ‘Husbands’ single is the stand out for the way that Gemma Thompson’s guitar illuminates the darkness with sonic thunderbolts but ‘I Am Here’ also impresses with its dense post- punk beat. They might be carefully managed but they’re a powerful live presence with memorable songs, as these four demonstrate.
