Sheepy isn't one to mess about when it comes to writing tunes. The Liverpudlian (real name Luke Jones) recorded nine albums in four years in his bedroom before being discovered playing in Ireland by London label Blang, who are now putting out his first release, the 'Predator EP'. These five tracks of classic indie-guitar songwriting indicate that there may be a big future lying in wait for him.
The jaunty pop-punk buzz of the title track has a hint of ace 90s also-rans Topper in its non-stop, melodic, powerpop rush and undeniable charm. Slacker anthem 'One Cup Of Coffee' is based around a simple, reverberating guitar hook that perfectly encapsulates the feel of a lazy day lost to weed and Strongbow. 'Bread And Noodles' is early Super Furry Animals jamming with Teenage Fanclub and is all the better for it. If there are a further 8 and a half albums of these on the back-burner then the future looks bright. A superb debut and definitely a talent to keep your eye on.
