Masquerade Cool for Cats

SoundsXP are no strangers to the work of The Ivories, the Leeds all-girl outfit who put out a pair of excellent singles a couple of years ago, having waxed lyrically about them at the time. Well Helena from that band may have now gone solo, moved to London and adopted a new moniker (Silhouette) but she has continued with her fascination with the gloomier end of the musical spectrum, focusing most obviously on the work of Nick Cave. Masquerade is a spaghetti western effort with metronomic snare, twangy rhythm and Helena's magnificent sultry vocals and the flipside proffers more sinister atmospherics. Definitely more good than bad or ugly.
