TV on the Radio
Crying 4AD

Article written by Matt H - May 5, 2009

TV on the Radio are one of those bands who always crop up on my "recommended" lists from Amazon and the like. On the evidence of Crying it's difficult to know why. It's funky and slick and to these ears very much like a slightly tarted up version of the sort of unconvincing dinner party soul that blighted much of the 90s. Yeah, the lyrics are far less trite, but it's the medium as well as the message that counts.

The other two remixes that will form part of this download package are much more interesting, Their beats are less clean, their blissed out tunes more engaging. There's a bit much pointless chopping about at the end of the rockier Shout Me Out but both it and the fuzzy groove of Red Dress at least point to why why I ought to like them.
