The Blanche Hudson Weekend: The Rats In The Cellar EP
Appearing on terrifying blood-red vinyl, this is a slower and more sinister BHW than we met on their debut 'Letters to Daddy EP'. 'Grip of Fear' is a nodder not a mosher, with Caroline's heartbroken girlpop tones (think Mary Weiss in 1964 singing about a dead biker boyfriend) accompanied by almost shoegazey guitars. 'Sharks' has a menacing air, despite Caroline's dreampop voice, while 'Only Snow' sounds like an even more decadent Velvet Underground or Spacemen 3, the chugging guitars rumbling out a driving rhythm while cellos saw and strings shriek discordantly. Impeccable influences equate to another very satisfying release.
