The Brownies
Cougar NRONE Records

Article written by Mary B - Jun 26, 2009

I like The Brownies. I like the lead vocals. I like the lyrics. I like the funky guitars. I like the song, 'Cougar' (produced by Jon Gray - The Subways/The Zutons/The Coral). I like 'Stuck on you' also. There is energy present in these tracks. You could not stand still to these songs. They are worth a head nod and a cheeky stamp of the foot at the very least. The last track, 'Violence' is much in the same vein as the other two songs. These are quirky, jumpy, shouty outings that I would like to see live.

I hate the fact they were the Guardian newspaper's single of the week at some stage though. I am always suspicious of singles that end up there. And so I shall stick in the 'I like' category until I listen to their debut album this month entitled: 'Ourknife Yourback'. The 'Like' may turn to 'love' in time.
