This is the third single by the MLS and it’s just as good as the first. Everything about them is contained in these four tracks: ‘Clusterfuck’ has Caroline’s singing part-buried but still driving the melody as the song is buffeted by exhilarating feedback and distortion. ‘Burning Wire’ is set up the same way, like the Primitives’ powerpop being turbocharged by My Bloody Valentine. ‘Detroit Diesel’ could be an audition for the US Army’s Psychological Warfare Unit while ‘Heat and Panic’ is a riot of skronky guitars and then a seriously disturbed guitar solo. It’s fierce but amazingly controlled, pop and noise, sweetness and terror in perfect balance.
