The Peryls
By Medicine Life May Be Prolonged. Golden Hoof Records

Article written by Mary B - Apr 20, 2008

I'll be honest. At first I was seduced by the black and white photograph accompanying the release. Three fine specimens of men with some facial hair, pipes and hats on offer staring back at me. It's pathetic I know but I am getting old and becoming more perverse with every passing minute.

When I did eventually put on my music cap I was even more seduced. This EP, 'By Medicine Life May Be Prolonged', is simply captivating. The music is nothing short of wonderful with all manner of instruments being lovingly played. The lyrics are thought provoking and just tumble off the tongue. My favourite tune 'The Experiment' houses these jewelled words, "There's a place for us all in the dark, where your God lies lost and forgotten, like a joke that tumbled out rotten and crawled off in shame."

The other three tunes, 'The Fallen Tree', 'A song about waiting for you' and 'Glass houses' are equally laden with words of wisdom and perfectly arranged music compositions. This is alt-folk at its folking best!
