The Proctors
All The Books Shelflife Records

The UK indiepop revival's bubble burst a couple of years back but that hasn't stopped bands from yesteryear reforming at a steady rate since then and, let's face it, some shouldn't have i.e. for every Primitives there has sadly been a Strawberry Story.

The latest, surprising but most welcome return sees the reformation of The Proctors whose last release was the 1996 album "Pinstripes and Englishmen" on cult US label Sunday Records.

Interest in the band had increased due in part to bassist Stephen Davies' excellent Please Rain Fall blog where he posted old tracks by the band and their previous incarnation The Cudgels, both of whom have been name checked many a time. An EP of unreleased tracks was released in 2009 via Cloudberry Records and the band started rehearsing again last year, minus original singer Christina, culminating in their first ever live show in Cambridge back in July.

Coming back to date they return State side with the label Shelflife releasing their brand new 7" single - complete with the mp3 download code of course! And what a return it is. A-side All The Books is a haunting affair with hushed vocals switching between band founder/guitarist Gavin Priest and an ethereal female voice that suggest this is the sound 4AD would have made if they were an indiepop label. Flip side Morning Light has been a favourite to these ears since they first posted it on their Soundcloud page. It's a driving, melodic and immediately catchy song that should have you nodding in appreciation from the opening bars. Most excellent!
