New York foursomes can’t get away from the Strokes comparisons and the Virgins don’t try. But they add something different, especially on ‘Rich Girls’ which is Strokes-like pop with a massively funky bassline, or the bubbly rhythms of ‘Love is Colder Than Death’. This debut EP is impressive hipster guitar pop with a bit of sass – all five tracks are worth hearing though the demo version of ‘Radio Christiane’ is especially fine. Expect to hear much more of them; although this doesn’t appear to be on a label, a little digging reveals that they’re signed to Atlantic Records.
