Wave Pictures - Sweetheart EP

Another six daubs from the quirky brush of The Wave Pictures, delivering the usual mixture of wonderment and wincing. So while we swoon at the brow soothing chanson d’amour campfire folk (Sweetheart) and we smile occasionally at the kooky lyrics (“We played in a dust cloud like Pigpen in Peanuts”), we also cringe when the words are a tad too clawing or daft (“We’ve got time to kill, we are only kittens / I can’t wait anymore, baby lift up the paw”, etc) or Mr Tattersall engages in excessive lead break noodling. Fine but flawed. Being the finest purveyors of lo-fi indie folk pop doesn’t mean you’re above some criticism, you know!
