Not everyone will get the Wave Pictures and this single has already been sent packing with a flea in its ear by some zines and broadsheet reviewers for daring to be too kooky. Well long may the Wave Pictures swim against the tide. Yes, the lyrics appear to have been thrown together by a lunatic with a jam fixation ("A sculpture is a sculpture / Marmalade is marmalade / And a sculpture of marmalade is a sculpture / But it isn't marmalade") but it's lo-fi, catchy and frankly wonderful, just like most of the quirky acoustic offerings from this Leicestershire trio. Even the b-side Puncture My Pride, a brooding ballad, manages to introduce the "One potato, two potato, three potato, four.." playground rhyme into its flow. File under Oddball Geniuses and catch them soon.
