Grundy le Zimbra and The Late Simon Mastrantone are promoters of the Songs In the Dark cabaret nights and also the performance duo known as the Woe Betides. There’s a strong sense of drama in their asymmetrical folk-pop as they present songs with unexpected structures and complex (i.e. progressive) arrangements that remind you of their mate Jeremy Walmsley. The EP has a slightly uneasy mix of firm structures and dramatic bursts of mini-melodies but ‘Boredom is the Killer’ is a fine and listenable piece of Brian Eno-style artrock.
