As she gets better, she gets darker. ' The Hypocrite' is another example of Amy’s complex, introspective pop noir, full of retro Kraftwerk electrobeats and naggingly addictive guitar riffs that hook you and don’t let go. She does a great line in austere but pretty minimalism, with an enigmatic allure. Why she's not scoring Japanese horror movies full of revengeful little girls coming back from the dead I don't know. On the flipside, 'Never Good Enough' with its glockenspiel and piano is similarly dark and scary, with nervous lyrics: "your discontent is growing/ all of your looks are disapproving". In ‘The Hypocrite’, Amy's produced another great single but I wouldn't want to be left alone in the house with it.
