Uncut are a Canadian band formerly into dance-rock but now firmly into the rock part of that hybrid. It’s a heavy sound, like a darker, fiercer Foo Fighters, with lyrics to match (“let’s just kill all the living”). Weirdly, on the last track (‘When For Now’) it goes seriously shoegazey, the wall of guitar noise sounding as if they’d suddenly been possessed by the ghost of Swervedriver. There’s impressively precise drumming – Jon Drew also produces Tokyo Police Club - but sadly the band has fallen off the dance-rock bandwagon to find themselves just another generic guitar band. Bob Mould, who asked them to support them, is a fan; I’m not.
