Veronica Falls
Fell in Love In A Graveyard Captured Tracks 7”

Article written by Ged M - Mar 3, 2010

After their ode to suicide alley, ‘Beachy Head’, now it’s romantic pairings in graveyards. Do Veronica Falls have some sort of death wish? Fortunately, the subject matter is the only thing gothic about them. The insistent indiepop rhythms of ‘Fell in Love In A Graveyard’ draw from the Shop Assistants and Comet Gain (the band met at a Gain gig), but its brilliance is more than just the sum of its influences. The subject matter of the A side sounds like one of Roky Erickson’s weirder inspirations and they, not coincidentally, cover one of his songs on the flipside. As performed by Roky, ‘Starry Eyes’ was a Buddy Holly tribute but here the Falls turn it into a warm communal singsong and a bobby-soxer's dream. Very excellent indeed.
