This comes with a reputation of a band skating on the thin ice of unlistenability (“death jazz”). Not proven here: ‘Bad Ideas’ actually has some good ones and makes a certain sort of art school sense, mashing up Beck-style hiphop with the freeform guitar stylings of early 90s Sonic Youth with a grumbling bass adding a creepy edginess. The nasty b-side, ‘Worm’ doesn’t work as well, unless you’d enjoy kids’ cartoons like Bagpuss reinterpreted by Dario Argento. A far cry from Andy Huxley’s former band, Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, this is in-your-face avant-garde skronk-rock, not for the timid.
