Windmill
Fit Melodic

Article written by Paul M
Jul 30, 2007.

To most Newport Pagnell is little more than a turnoff on the M1 for a tank full of four star and an overpriced pie and chips. Matthew Thomas Dillon, aka Windmill, certainly looked beyond the local attractions of Castrol GTX and Ginsters. With the grand orchestral arrangements of Arcade Fire and the pleading vocals of Neil Young he evokes the finer output of intelligent alt-rock merchants Mercury Rev and Flaming Lips. However the quality of the songs indicates more than just a keen ear for mimicry on the part of young Mr Dillon. With Fit and its b-side Racing he’s conjured up a double dose of mighty maudlin magic; two epic songs that wash over in layers of strings, keys and brass. For someone born next to a major transport freeway it’s fitting that the word ‘moving’ should apply so aptly to his music too.
