The Bon Bon Club - Grey Vinyl
Ah, that bass sound. Like the strings were made out the biggest elastic band in the world, plucked with a huge lead thumb. I've not heard the like since Killdozer roamed the Earth covering EMF. The Bon Bon Club have their own idiosyncratic approach to a cover, stripping Pulp, The Cure and, erm, Death From Above 1979 back to bass and drums. The effect, a few lovely nah nah nah nahs and a Gary Glitter moment apart (musically... not like that... honestly...) is to make the songs engagingly similar and relentless.
But perhaps not similar or relentless enough. What I'd like, no what I DEMAND, from a Bon Bon Club album is that they take the "Q" top ten records ever and render them down to a single thundering bass note and a single snare strike. The same bass note and drum beat at the same tempo for every song with the lyrics declaimed in a monotone above it.
